Pictures at Central Park

Sep 09, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Central Park, Gapstow Bridge, New York, NY

After the Wedding Ceremony the Wedding Party is heading to the Southeast Corner of Central Park to take pictures.Anyone who would like to participate can meet the party there, in and around Gapstow Bridge. The directions are below, and there are no fees to Central Park.
We chose Central Park for photos because it offers the perfect backdrop to pictures. Virtually everywhere you turn is a beautiful vista. The park seems a stunning work of nature, its woodlands, grasslands, trails, hills, valleys and lakes, the “breath” of New York. And yet, the park is essentially manmade, albeit in the image of its designers as a "perfect portrait" of nature. Of the approximately 20,000 trees of 175 species, solidly 60% are non-native to New York. Of the seven lakes contained within the park, none are natural to the terrain and are mostly the result of damning existing streams. Of the paths, trails, and roads winding through the park – with curves to match the contours of hills and valleys – as well as the submerged roadways - none are original.
And yet to walk through the park and spend a long afternoon so removed from the city is like being lost in a child’s Winnie-the-Pooh book traversing the 100-acre woods. Many times Kenny and I would take the subway to Columbus Circle at the park's southwest corner, purchase a paper bag lunch at Whole Foods, and tread the park settling down on an outcrop of boulders to watch a softball match, or lay down on a blanket in one of the sun-soaked meadows, or listen to an operatic soprano and a string quartet reverberating under Bethesda Terrace. Pure Magic! And there would always be gatherings, performers, and wedding parties - the long list of which we will now join. It is a naturally unnatural enigma we love.
